Resident Evil 5 or Racist Eventually 5?
So Resi. Five got hit with a lot of flak because of the race issue. the game starts out with Chris Redfield who’s a white, good looking cop and his sidekick Sheva Alamor a light skinned black woman with straight hair. By the way if you do not know this African people usually don’t have straight hair. You shoot some light skinned African people but as the game progresses on the zombies get darker and darker. Finally you’re in a village while they throw spears at you and speak in a native language while wearing tribal garb. Now in defense of Cap I think it’s not racist because they are in Africa and if they had white zombies in a heavily populated black area that would be weird and inconsistent. I also think the zombies were bad depictions of black people. They were slow, had no rhythm, and terribly dressed. Capcom was accused of racism but released a statement defending their IP (Intelligent Product) a few days after the games release:
“We at Capcom feel strongly against the accusations of race being depicted as offensive. We at Capcom are not racist we have many black characters. Such as Balrog…and…uhh… well Street Fighter IV was great right kids?”
